KENNESAW, Ga. – For the fourth consecutive game, the Kennesaw State baseball team had double-digit hits, but it was one grand slam by Ronnie Freeman that lifted the Owls to their third straight come from behind win in a 7-3 victory over UAB.

The Owls would find themselves down and having to battle from behind for the third game in a row, as the Blazers would score one run in the second inning and two more in the fourth to go up 3-0 on the Black and Gold.

KSU would get one run back in the bottom of the fourth when Andy Chriscaden’s check swing to shortstop brought Andy Almonte in to score and produce a 3-1 game.

It would be a big fifth inning that would ultimately decide the game, as the Owls would send the entire lineup to the plate in the frame. Jacob Bruce would score the innings first run, and the other four would come from one swing off the bat of Freeman.

UAB would make a pitching change, bringing in the left-handed Dylan Munger to face the Owls top prospect. On a 1-0 count, Freeman muscled a grand slam over the right-center field wall to put Kennesaw up, 6-3.

Will Howard would add another insurance run with a deep blast to right-center field to give Kennesaw a 7-4 advantage. Similar to this past weekend’s games, the Owls bullpen would put zeros across the board, holding the Blazers to five hits and zero earned runs after the fourth inning.

Zak Griffith, Andrew Austin and James Connell closed out the victory; with Griffith picking up his 10th career win in the 7-3 win. Offensive leaders for the Black and Gold were Freeman, who had two hits, four RBI and one run scored, while Aaron Dobbs and Howard each had three hits and a run scored with Howard also picking up an RBI.

Kennesaw will return to action on Wednesday, as the squad is set to face Presbyterian College. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. E.T., with freshman Nathan Harsh taking the mound.

Wednesday night will be $1 night, as all fans will receive admission for a dollar. Live audio will be available on KSU All Access with Nathan McCreary describing all the action, while the Owls search for their fifth consecutive win.

The team will open Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend when the squad travels to Macon, Ga., to compete against in-state rival Mercer. The games are slated for Friday at 6:00 p.m., Saturday 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game on Saturday has been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict and Mercer hosting the second round of CIT basketball tournament.
