STATESBORO, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Georgia Southern Championships with junior Gokalp Ozdemir (Ankara, Turkey/Walton HS) and freshman Tobi Menhofer (Pfronten, Germany/Gymnasium Hohenschwangau) each posting a singles win on Saturday at the Hanner Tennis Complex.

"Overall, we played well, especially in doubles,” said Head Coach #T.J. Greggs#. “We need to get stronger, healthier and tougher over the next few months. The guys have been working hard, but we need to show a little more toughness if we want to compete for a conference championship."

Ozdemir tallied a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Daniel Rush of Georgia Southern, while Menhofer was leading 7-6 (1-0) 1-0 against Georgia Southern’s Andrew Dromsky when Dromsky retired from the match.

Sophomores Alex Toliver (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) and Matthew Johnson (Roswell, Ga./Roswell HS) dropped their lone singles matches on the day, while sophomores Louis Theodor (Jakarta, Indonesia/Jubilee School) and Alexander Pena (Johns Creek, Ga./Lambert HS), along with freshmen Maksim Yorsh (Minsk, Belarus/R.S.C.O.R) and Jorge Wilton (Ashtead, England/Reeds School) withdrew from singles play due to injury.

In doubles action, Yorsh and Wilton rebounded from their Friday doubles loss to post two wins over a pair of Georgia Southern tamdems, including an 8-1 win over Kyle Hoffman and Carson Jones and an 8-6 victory over Matthijs Verdam and Rayane Djouad.

The team of Menhofer and Theodor split a pair of doubles matches on the day, while Pena and Toliver dropped their lone match on Saturday. Ozedmir and Johnson fell twice to round out the Owls.

The Owls are next in action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday, Oct. 18 to Monday, Oct. 22.
