Owls Hit the Road for Two A-Sun Matches

GAME NOTES

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches in Jacksonville, Fla., taking on Jacksonville Friday night before facing North Florida on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls will look to remain perfect on the road where they are currently 4-0 with a 13-7 record overall and a 2-3 mark in the conference standings.

Jacksonville has won just three matches so far this season at 3-15 and are 1-4 in the A-Sun. The Dolphins are still winless on their home floor and will look for their first win at home in the 7 p.m. match.

North Florida is currently tied with the Owls as well as Mercer at 2-3 in the A-Sun but is a perfect 4-0 at home. The Ospreys boast one of the best defenses in the league, averaging 17.3 digs per set and holding opponents to a .172 attack percentage. Game time for Saturday is on slate for 3 p.m.

Kennesaw State is coming off of one of its most impressive victories of 2012 after taking down Alabama State, 3-0, in Montgomery, Ala. this past Tuesday.

Senior Baylee Strachan (Sioux City, Iowa/Winthrop) had her fourth match of the year with a .600 attack percentage or higher after hitting .643 with 10 kills during the midweek win. Strachan is now hitting .329 for the year with 157 kills and 36 blocks.

As a team, the black and gold are holding steady at second in the conference in hitting percentage at .216 while holding opponents to just .189. The Owls are also averaging 1.49 service aces per set, second in the A-Sun, and are led by setter Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrysler HS) who now has 20.

Libero Camille Pedraza (Marietta, Ga./Kell HS) continues to be the stronghold for the KSU defense, averaging 4.57 digs per set with 279 total. Senior Turea Jones (Satna Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) cracked the 200 dig mark as well for the season with 213.

Freshmen Cierra Royster (Mableton, Ga./Cumberland Christian HS) and Jenna Wilt (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah HS) continue to have standout rookie seasons, Royster leading the Owls in blocks with 42 and Wilt averaging just under one kill per set and having played in all but one set for the black and gold on the year.
