KSU Soccer Clinches No. 3 Seed with 3-0 Win over Stetson in Final Regular Season Match

DELAND, Fla. –
The Kennesaw State soccer team will enter the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed after a 3-0 win at Stetson in Sunday's regular-season finale at the Stetson Soccer Complex.
 
The Owls (10-7-1, 6-2-1) will host No.6 seed North Florida (7-9-2, 5-3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 27at KSU Stadium. Game time and ticket information will be announced on Monday. Stetson finishes the 2012 season at 3-13-1 and 1-7-1 in the conference.

Florida Gulf Coast (12-3-3, 7-1-1) claimed the A-Sun regular-season title and No. 1 seed after defeating Mercer (12-4-3, 6-1-2), 1-0, on Sunday. The Eagles will host the A-Sun semifinals and finals scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 4, respectively, in Fort Myers, Fla.
 
Sophomore midfielder Nicole Calder (Adelaide, Australia/Westminster) opened the scoring for KSU as she notched her third goal of the season off redshirt-sophomore Jewelia Strickland (Fayetteville, Ga./Alabama)’s corner kick in the 33rd minute of the first half.
 
The Owls pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute as junior defender Kelsey Barr (Douglasville, Ga./South Carolina) served a hard-earned cross into the six-yard box to sophomore forward Heather Joyce (Carrolton, Ga./Carrolton HS). Joyce spun her defender and finished the ball into the left corner of the goal. It was the second goal of the season for the sophomore.
 
Redshirt-sophomore forward Katrina Frost (Fayetteville, Ga./South Carolina) added her 10th goal of the season with just a minute and half left in regulation on the Owls’ fifth and final corner kick. Strickland, tallying her second assist in the match, served the ball into the box and found Joyce, who flicked the ball onto Frost. Frost then slammed the ball into the back of the net to cement the 3-0 victory.
 
Kennesaw State outshot the Hatters 20-6, including an eight to four mark in shots on goal. Frost led all players with four shots, including one on goal. Barr and freshman midfielder Hannah Churchill (Bristol, England/Filton College) added three shots each for the Owls. Jenna Premo has two shots for Stetson.
 
KSU earned five corners to the Hatters’ two, while both teams combined for 27 fouls in the contest.
 
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Robers (Rome, Ga./Marshall) collected four saves on the day, while Victoria Troccoli tallied five saves.
