KENNESAW, Ga. – With the first half of the Atlantic Sun Conference schedule in the books, the Kennesaw State volleyball team will head to Florida for a pair of weekend matches against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.

The Owls currently sit in the middle of the pack at 4-6 in the A-Sun, tied with USC Upstate and Mercer for fifth place with a 15-10 record overall.

This weekend’s opponents represent the top and bottom of the league standings, Stetson still winless in the A-Sun at 0-9 and Florida Gulf Coast still undefeated at the top at 9-0. KSU defeated Stetson in straight sets back on Sept. 22, putting up a .337 attack percentage in the process. FGCU got the best of the Owls, defeating the black and gold 3-0 on Sept. 21.

The Owls are looking to get back to their winning ways this weekend after dropping three straight league matches. The road has been kind to KSU thus far, holding a 6-1 record away from the Convocation Center.

Defense continues to be the stronghold of the black and gold, holding opponents to a .201 attack percentage with 138 blocks and nearly 2,000 digs. Libero Camille Pedraza (Marietta, Ga./Kell HS) leads with a 4.44 digs per set average while freshman Cierra Royster (Mableton, Ga./Cumberland Christian HS) continues to make an immediate impact in her rookie season with a team high 62 blocks.

Setter Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrysler HS) remains in the top 60 nationally in assists per set with a 10.58 average and 910 total. Metroka now has 2,941 career assists, extending the junior’s already impressive school record.

KSU seniors Turea Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) and Baylee Strachan (Sioux City, Iowa/Winthrop) remain the cornerstone of the Owl offense, Jones with a team high 269 kills and Strachan one of the top hitters in the league with a .341 attack percentage.

The Owls will return Kennesaw, Ga. for their final two home matches of the season next weekend, hosting North Florida on Oct. 26, in the breast cancer awareness game and Jacksonville on Oct. 27, for senior day.
