Owls Soccer Looks to Finish Regular Season on High Note at FGCU, Stetson

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State soccer team wraps up the regular season with its final trip of the season, starting with an important conference showdown with Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the final match of the regular season against Stetson on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. The conference regular season champion, along with the seeding for the tournament, will be decided in this final regular season weekend.

Kennesaw State (9-6-1, 5-1-1) trails in the all-time series with FGCU (10-3-3, 5-1-1) with the Eagles owning a 3-1-1 record versus KSU, while the Owls lead the series with Stetson (3-11-1, 1-5-1) with a 4-2-1 mark. KSU dropped a 3-0 decision to FGCU last season, but tallied a 2-0 win against the Hatters in 2011.
 
The Owls extended their winning streak to five matches with an undefeated weekend in the final home stand of the 2012 season last weekend. The Owls opened the weekend with a 4-2 win over North Florida on Friday, with two unassisted goals from redshirt-sophomore forward Katrina Frost (Fayetteville, Ga./South Carolina) and a goal each from freshman forward Danielle Gray (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh, HS) and sophomore midfielder Nicole Calder (Adelaide, Australia/Westminster), with assists from junior defender Tasia Williams (Waldorf, Md./Auburn) and redshirt-sophomore defender Jewelia Strickland (Fayetteville, Ga./Alabama). KSU continued its winning ways on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville as Frost had another two-goal showing, with both scores assisted by senior defender Lexi Hastings (Ontario, Canada/Lassiter).
 
With the two wins on the weekend, Kennesaw State (9-6-1, 5-1-1) moved into a tie for second place in the A-Sun with FGCU, trailing Mercer by a single point. The Owls also clinched a spot in the A-Sun Championship, along with Mercer, East Tennessee State, FGCU, Jacksonville and North Florida.
 
Florida Gulf Coast enters the match with a record of 10-3-3 overall and sits in a tie for second place in the A-Sun with the Owls at 5-1-1. The Eagles are coming off of a 2-0 victory over Stetson on Saturday at the FGCU Soccer Complex and are the reigning regular season and tournament champions. Sophomore Shannen Wacker leads the Eagle attack with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. In between the posts is freshman Brittany Brown, who is 9-2-3 on the season and has started 14 of 16 matches for the Eagles. She owns a 0.74 goals-against average with 11 goals given up in 1,344 minutes. 
 
Stetson, 3-11-1 on the season and 1-5-1 in the A-Sun, will be closing out its 2012 season this weekend, facing Mercer on Friday night before Sunday’s contest versus the Owls. The Hatters are coming off a 2-0 loss at FGCU last Saturday. Junior Alyssa Welsh and freshman Mara Keomanivane lead the Stetson offense with six points each as both own three goals on the season. Junior Victoria Troccoli is in goal for the Hatters and owns a 3-10-1 mark in 2012. She has given up 28 goals in 1,238 minutes for a goals-against average of 2.03.
