KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team makes its return to the KSU Convocation Center this Saturday after a four game road trip, hosting in-state rival Mercer at 3 p.m. in a pivotal Atlantic Sun Conference match.

The game will also double as the kickoff for Flight Night during an action packed homecoming weekend for KSU.

The 15-8 Owls will look to jump back over .500 in the conference, where they are currently 4-4, with just one match this weekend against the Bears (7-11, 3-5 A-Sun). The two met just once last season, a 3-1 win for the black and gold on Nov. 11, 2011.

The Owls are coming off of a 3-0 loss at USC Upstate, but have enjoyed a 3-1 run in their last four games, all on the road. Mercer, on the other hand, has gone 1-3 and is trying to snap a two game losing skid.

The two seniors continue to be the driving force for KSU throughout conference play. Baylee Strachan (Sioux City, Iowa/Winthrop) is now hitting .346 for the season, .397 in A-Sun games alone, with 185 kills and 44 blocks. Turea Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) leads the black and gold in total kills with 250 and ranks second in digs with 258.

Mercer brings in one of the best defenses in the nation, ranking fourth in digs per set (18.39) with libero Emily Rochefort coming in at 11th in the nation in individual digs per set (5.57). Molly Locke anchors the Bear offense, leading with 224 kills in 69 sets played.

Kennesaw State setter Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrysler HS) continues to rank in the top 50 nationally in assists, holding a 10.86 assists per set average.

Freshman Cierra Royster (Mableton, Ga./Cumberland Christian HS) will be looking for her 60th block of the season while Emily Bean (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike HS) is looking to hit the 50 block mark during tomorrow’s match. Royster currently leads the squad with 59 with Bean behind at 47.

Following the match, fans can stick around to partake in the homecoming parade, the debuts of the Kennesaw State dance and cheer teams, the unveiling of the new “Scrappy” mascot, the introduction of the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and a concert featuring J-Dash and the Ying Yang Twins on the Campus Green. The night will then conclude with a fireworks extravaganza.

Fans are also reminded that the east parking deck will be closed due to the firework preparations. Those attending should park in the east lot or central parking deck. Please click on the campus map for further directions.

KSU will enjoy its first Friday without a match since Aug. 17, before its meeting with the Bears tomorrow. Next week, ETSU will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. on Tuesday for 7 p.m. match.
