Soccer Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Night Friday, Celebrates Seniors Sunday for Final Home Matches

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State returns to KSU Stadium for its final home matches of the season this weekend, as the Owls host North Florida for Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. ET, before facing off against Jacksonville for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at KSU Stadium.
 
Owls fans who wear pink to Friday’s contest will receive $3 admission. Prior to the match on Sunday, the Owls will celebrate seniors Lexi Hastings (Ontario, Canada/Lassiter), Mel Hutto (Pensacola, Fla./South Alabama), Lauren Roberts (Rome, Ga./Marshall) and Liz Blackburn (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue East HS).

Kennesaw State (7-6-1, 3-1-1 Atlantic Sun Conference) owns a 9-1-1 mark in the all-time series versus North Florida and is tied with Jacksonville at 5-5-0. In 2011, the Owls dropped 1-0 matches to both the Ospreys and the Dolphins. 
 
KSU went 2-0 last weekend and notched a pair of road wins as freshman forward Danielle Gray (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh, HS) scored her third game-winning goal of the season in the 79th minute to propel the Owls to a 1-0 win over A-Sun newcomer Northern Kentucky on Friday night at NKU Soccer Stadium. The Owls pushed their win-streak to three matches on Sunday, as KSU notched three first half goals and held on to remain undefeated on the road in a 3-2 win over Lipscomb on Sunday at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. KSU received goals from redshirt-sophomore forward Katrina Frost (Fayetteville, Ga./South Carolina), Blackburn and junior midfielder Kelsey Barr (Douglasville, Ga./South Carolina), assisted by Gray, freshman midfielder Hannah Churchill (Bristol, England/Filton College) and redshirt-sophomore defender Jewelia Strickland (Fayetteville, Ga./Alabama), respectively.
 
North Florida enters the match on a five-game unbeaten streak and is 6-6-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference action. The Ospreys are coming off two of their bigger wins over the season with a 2-0 defeat of co-conference leader Florida Gulf Coast, before a 2-1 win over Stetson on Sunday. Junior Thea Linkfield leads the UNF offense with 14 points on five goals and four assists, while sophomore Carolina Lencina has tallied 13 points on five goals and three assists. Redshirt-senior Brittany Hahn and sophomore Rachel Beninati have split time in goal for the Ospreys, with Hahn playing every minute of the last three contests and has tallied a 2-1-1 record. She owns a 0.69 goals-against average in 391 minutes and has two shutouts to her name. Beninati is 4-5-1 on the season with a 1.80 goals-against average in 900 minutes and has tallied 41 saves and two shutouts this season.
 
Jacksonville (6-4-3, 3-0-2 A-Sun) has gone since Sept. 8 without a loss and is riding a six-match unbeaten streak heading into the Dolphins’ contest with Mercer on Friday night. Last weekend, JU registered a 3-0 win against Stetson and a 1-1 tie with FGCU. Sisters Raquel and Marie Weckhurst lead the attack for the Dolphins with 10 points each as freshman Marie has tallied a team-leading four goals and two assists and junior Raquel has recorded three goals and a team-leading four assists. In goal for JU is freshman Jill D’Amico, who has played in 11 of 12 contests for the Dolphins and owns a 5-4-2 mark in 2012.  D’Amico has given up 14 goals in 1,068 minutes for a 1.18 goals-against average and has notched 39 saves to go along with three shutouts.
 
Kennesaw State next wraps up the regular season with its final road trip of the year as the Owls travel to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest at Stetson on Sunday, Oct. 14.
