"We're very happy to be taking on a challenge from an in-state rival like Georgia," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington.  "Playing in-state rivals like Georgia and Georgia State can only help the sport of volleyball in this state.  We know that this will be a tough task ahead of us, but our team is very prepared to go out and make Kennesaw State proud."
The Owls (3-4) had a three-match winning streak come to an end in the finale of the 2011 Owls Invitational with a loss to Oral Roberts.  Alyssa Lang and Sara Metroka were both named to the All-Invitational Team for their performances.  Lang had 44 kills with only four errors in 95 attacks for a .421 attack percentage.  She also averaged 4.00 digs per set and had three consecutive double-doubles on the weekend, bringing her total to four straight overall.  Metroka also had a solid performance in running the KSU offense.  The sophomore setter had 10.91 assists per set for the tournament and also set a career-high with seven kills in a, 3-2, win over Winthrop Friday evening.
Georgia (2-4) is in the midst of a four-match losing streak after losses to Kansas, Pepperdine, Miami and UC Santa Barbara.  The Bulldogs have received solid play from Kathleen Luft, who leads the team in kills per set with a 3.20 average and is second on the squad in digs per set with a 2.35 average.  Kathleen Gates guides the UGA offense with a 10.6 assists per game average.
The two teams met in Athens last season, with Georgia earning a 3-0 win over the Owls.  The overall score doesn't show the competitive nature of the match, as the first two sets were won by UGA by scores of 25-23 and 33-31.
Following Tuesday night's match, the Owls will be back home for the 2011 Owls Classic.  KSU will face Eastern Kentucky in the 7 p.m. match Friday night, with Troy and UAB squaring off in the 5 p.m. contest.
