Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Sara Metroka set Kennesaw State's record for career assists by recording the 1,597th of her career as the Owls fell to Lipscomb, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) at the KSU Convocation Center in Atlantic Sun Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.

"We're very happy for Sara to set this record," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington.  "It's a testament to her skill and her work ethic that she has been able to break this record so quickly in her career."

Justine Young led the Owls with 15 kills in the match while Alyssa Lang had nine kills and nine digs for KSU in the loss.

"Championship teams make plays in championship moments," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington.  "We always preach that we want to get to 20 points in a set and then win those championship points.  Lipscomb has proven time after time that they know how to win those championship points.  That's the level we are trying to get to as a team."

The Owls (5-12, 0-2) were in every set against the two-time defending A-Sun champions until the very end.  In the first set, the Owls led, 20-17, after a Young kill.  The Bisons (7-6, 2-0) scored the next three points to tie the set at 20.  While Lang would give KSU the lead with a kill at 21-20, the Bisons rolled off the final five points of the set to take the opening frame, 25-21.

The second set played out nearly the same way.  The Owls led 21-18 after a Lipscomb attack error, but the Bisons scored the next three points to tie the set at 21.  Lang put the Owls ahead with a kill, but again, the Owls wouldn't score the rest of the way, as Lipscomb scored the final four points to win, 25-22.

Baylee Strachan's fourth kill of the match put the Owls on top, 20-17, in the fourth set.  Lipscomb mounted a rally, scoring the next six points to take the lead, 23-20.  A service error gave the Owls point 21, but a Lipscomb kill and a block gave the Bisons the 25-21 victory.

Kaycee Green had 18 kills to lead the Bisons, with Lauren Ford knocking down 13 and Kaite Rose earning 10.  The Bisons had 16 more kills as a team than the Owls (49-33).

Young finished her first A-Sun weekend averaging 5.14 kills per set while hitting for a remarkable .417 attack percentage.  Lang finished the weekend as KSU's leader in digs per set against A-Sun foes at 3.43.

The Owls will be back in action this Friday in Jacksonville, Fla., when they visit North Florida in A-Sun action.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
