KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team looks to close out its 23-day homestand, and its Atlantic Sun Conference opening weekend, on a positive note as it hosts Lipscomb on Sunday at 1 p.m. at KSU Soccer Stadium.

The Owls (4-4-1, 0-1 A-Sun) will be looking to earn a split to their conference opening weekend after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Belmont in their conference opener on Friday.

Sophomore Kelsey Barr scored her second goal of the season to tie the game up at 1-1 in the 59th minute, but it wasn’t enough as Belmont handed KSU its first loss in a A-Sun conference opener in program history.

Kennesaw State has had mixed results on its six-match homestand as it has a record of 2-2-1 thus far, but it has been slowed down by inconsistent play up front. Redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost has done her part as she leads the A-Sun in goals with eight on the year. For the Owls to be at their best, and make a deep run into the conference tournament, they need to find a way to get their two Preseason All-Conference forwards going in Brittany Vining and Alyssa Mahan.

Sunday’s opponent for the Owls may be exactly what Vining and Mahan need as the pair teamed up to score the game-winning goal against Lipscomb in the final seconds last season, and Vining has recorded seven points in her career against the Lady Bisons.

The Black and Gold have never started A-Sun play with a 0-2 record in their six previous seasons in the conference, and the Owls are also 5-1-0 all-time against Lipscomb.

Lipscomb (2-7-1, 0-1 A-Sun) is coming off a 3-0 loss to Mercer on Friday night. The Lady Bisons return nine starters from a team that went 4-14 last season. Lipscomb was picked to finish ninth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll and it is led by Meghan McGuire who has a team-high four goals on the season.

Fans are encouraged to come to KSU Stadium early on Sunday afternoon as their will be a Petting Zoo with several animals on display. Also, the first 250 fans to enter the stadium will receive a free mouse pad courtesy of Shane Company.
