KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team is coming off an eight-day layoff as it gets ready to host UAB in a non-conference matchup on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 12 p.m. at KSU Soccer Stadium.

The Owls (3-3) are coming off their third-consecutive weekend split last weekend as they lost to Samford, 4-1, on Friday night, but came back to dominate Clayton State to a tune of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Black and Gold played the entire second half of its 2-0 win over Clayton State with only 10 women as senior Katie Scott was sent off with a red card in the 44th minute. The Owls went almost four full years since their last red card as Maylee Attin-Johnson got one on Sept. 7, 2007 at Alabama.

Redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost scored all three KSU goals on the weekend. Frost now has six goals in her first six games in a KSU uniform. The Fayetteville, Ga. native also currently leads all Atlantic Sun Conference players in game-winning goals (2), goals (6) and points (12).

Frost has been happy that she has been able to contribute for the Owls in her first season and she looks forward to the growth and improvement of the offensive unit as the season moves forward.

“I'm thrilled that I have been able to contribute to my team in a positive way, but the success is merely the outcome of all the hard work and time the team has been putting into improving our game,” Frost said. “Our offensive side of the game has been a major focus for us this season. The team has worked very hard on improving ourselves offensively and we are constantly trying to sharpen our skills so that we can capitalize on opportunities in the attacking third. I feel that as we progress into conference, we are going to be a major threat and force to be reckoned with not only in the attacking third, but all over the field as well.”

Senior Alyssa Mahan has also been a key part of the Owls offense as she is currently in ninth place on the all-time Kennesaw State assist list with 19 assists in her career, and she also leads the A-Sun in assists with four on the season.

KSU is 2-0 all-time against UAB with their last meeting coming on Sept. 21, 2007 when the Black and Gold won by a score of 1-0. Kennesaw State has a perfect record of 3-0 against Conference USA teams.

UAB (2-4) is coming off a 1-0 loss on Sept. 9 against Alabama. The Blazers finished in seventh place in Conference USA last season with a record of 8-9-2 (4-5-2 C-USA). UAB is led by senior defender Pascale Pinard who leads the team in points with four.

Sunday also marks the 10-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States of America. In honor of that historic day Kennesaw State athletics will be honoring all police, firefighters, military and first responders on Heroes Appreciation Day. The first 250 fans to the stadium will also receive a free American flag.
