AUBURN, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team lost a hard-fought, non-conference matchup to Auburn on Sunday night by a score of 4-0 in front of 847 fans at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

The loss drops the Owls to 2-2 for the season, while the win improves the Tigers to 2-1 on the year.

Auburn struck first in the 6th minute as Katy Frierson hit a ball through the box that slid underneath the grasp of Kennesaw State goalkeeper Melissa Hutto to a wide open Tatiana Coleman who put it home.

The Black and Gold settled down and controlled play for the next ten minutes as it got its first quality scoring opportunity in the 13th minute. Redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost took a pass from senior Brittany Vining and blasted a shot from 30 yards out that just sailed over the crossbar.

The Tigers pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute scoring off a corner kick. Ashley Kotero hit a low shot that eluded several KSU players and snuck into the back of the net. Hutto had no chance on the play as she couldn’t see the shot through the mass of players in the box.

Coming out of the locker rooms to begin the second half the Tigers kept the momentum on their side scoring just 38 seconds into the period to make the score 3-0.

Frost almost got the Owls on the board again in the 61st minute as her touch off a beautiful pass by senior Alyssa Mahan went just a little too high over the outstretched arms of Auburn goalkeeper Chandler Hillen.

The Tigers would go on to add another goal later on as the game became very physical with three yellow cards being handed out between the two teams.

“Another physically tough game tonight,” head coach Rob King said. “If we learn from the mistakes we are making in these challenging SEC road games, then it benefits us to play them. I was very pleased with our second half performance. We will build from there in practice this week and are looking forward to our next six games being in our stadium.”

Hutto made a season-high eight saves in the losing effort, while Frost led KSU in shots with four.

Kennesaw State will have the week off before hosting Samford on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at KSU Soccer Stadium.
