KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team will be shooting for its third straight win on Sunday night when it travels to SEC power Auburn at 8 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

When head coach Rob King released the 2011 schedule in the spring all Owls fans took notice of this matchup against Auburn on Aug. 28. They are the defending SEC West Champions, and the Tigers ranked the highest out of all KSU opponents in the 2010 NCAA RPI rankings at 58.

With that being said this game couldn’t come at a better time for the Black and Gold as they are playing their best soccer of the young season coming off a solid 1-0 win over the College of Charleston on Friday night.

Kennesaw State’s (2-1) offense has gotten off to a good start thanks to the superb play of redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost and senior Alyssa Mahan.

Frost will attempt to do something on Sunday evening that no Owl has ever done in Kennesaw State's Division I era. KSU started Division I play back in 2004, and in those past seven years no player has scored a goal in four straight games to begin a season. The last player who wore a KSU uniform to accomplish this feat came back in the Black and Gold's Division II days as Steph Grzeszkowiak scored in four straight to start the 2003 season.

Mahan moved into a tie with teammate Brittany Vining for ninth place on the all-time Kennesaw State assist list with 18, and she also leads the Atlantic Sun Conference with seven points.

The Owls lost their lone meeting to Auburn by a score of 3-1 on Sept. 4, 2009 and they are 1-5 all-time against SEC opponents.

Auburn (1-1) is coming off a 4-1 victory on Aug. 26 against Middle Tennessee State. The Tigers finished fifth overall in the Southeastern Conference last year with a record of 11-8-2 (5-4-2 SEC). The Tigers have five starters returning, including senior midfielder Katy Frierson. Frierson was named as a 2011 Soccer America Preseason All-American.
