KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team is set for year two at the world-class KSU Soccer Stadium as it is just over 24 hours away from its 2011 home opener against the College of Charleston on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Owls (1-1) are coming off a weekend split in the Yellowhammer State as they fell to Alabama on Friday night in their season opener, but rebounded nicely with an 8-0 win against Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday's 8-0 win was a record-tying one as the eight goals tied a Division I school record for the most goals the Owls have scored in a single game since becoming a member of Division I in 2005.

Senior Alyssa Mahan finished the game with six points as she became the first Kennesaw State player to record six points in a game since Rachel Baer on Oct. 5, 2008 against North Florida. Mahan also currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in points with six.

As KSU now focuses its attention on its 2011 home opener against the College of Charleston it will put an amazing streak on the line on Friday night. Since the women’s soccer program was established back in 2002 the Owls have never lost a home opener going 9-0 over the past nine years.

Kennesaw State also has some more history on its side as it has an all-time record of 7-2-3 against Southern Conference teams.

Head Coach Rob King knows the importance of this game for his team moving forward.

“The girls have had a great week of practice,” coach King said. “We've made some slight adjustments to our team shape and are communicating better. The College of Charleston match is always a close one as they have some excellent players and are well coached. We are excited for our home opener and it's Movie Night on the video board, so we're expecting a great crowd and a great performance to match.”

The College of Charleston (1-0) is coming off a 3-1 victory on Aug. 19 against Charleston Southern. The Cougars were picked to finish in fourth place in the Southern Conference Preseason Poll, finishing last season with a record of 9-10-1 (6-4-1 SoCon).

Fans are encouraged to stay after the match as KSU Athletics will be showing the new movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The movie is free to watch, and popcorn will be provided by Proof of the Pudding. The movie is sponsored by Student Life, and there will also be a pre-match tailgate hosted by Residence Life.
