KENNESAW, Ga. - With the start of the season closing in, the Kennesaw State volleyball team took time out of their rigorous preseason preparations to take part in a pair of community service initiatives.

Last Friday, the Owls cleaned a stretch of Shiloh Road just north of the KSU campus as part of the "Keep Cobb Beautiful" program.  The Owls had adopted the stretch of the road from Cherokee Street to North Booth Road and had cleaned the stretch once previously last May.  Still, it was the first opportunity for several of the KSU newcomers to take part in this community service program.

Also last week, the Owls visited an assisted living home that primarily deals with patients with Alzheimer's Disease.  The team socialized with the residents, even taking part in a game of Bingo.

"We want our student-athletes to realize that they are a big part of the Kennesaw community," said KSU volleyball head coach Karen Weatherington.  "I was very happy that everyone on the team wanted to take part in these community service efforts."
