HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team looks to earn a split on its 2011 season opening weekend as it travels to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls (0-1) are coming off a tough start to their season on Friday night as they fell to Alabama, 7-1.
Even with the loss there were some positive signs for the Black and Gold starting with redshirt-freshman
Katrina Frost. Frost led the Owls in the attacking third as she finished with six shots and also scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a beautiful strike from 25 yards out.
On the defensive end, KSU got a pretty solid effort from both goalkeepers even though that is not what the score suggested. Junior
Melissa Hutto made several excellent saves in her 65 minutes of play to keep her team in the match, while redshirt-freshman
Emily Cox, who transferred from Alabama, played well making four saves in 25 minutes of action.
Kennesaw State looks to have a short memory as it shifts their attention to Sunday afternoon’s opponent in Alabama A&M.
All signs point to KSU having a solid bounce back game as it has had the Lady Bulldogs number over the years. The Owls are 3-0 all-time against Alabama A&M, which includes a 6-0 win on Aug. 22 last season. Senior
Alyssa Mahan has found a great deal of success in her career against Alabama A&M as she has recorded nine points in just three games played.
Alabama A&M (0-1) lost their season opener on Friday night to Austin Peay, 14-0. The Lady Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the SWAC, and they are led by Celeste Roberts who was selected to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team.
Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. eastern time.
