KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's tennis team had its season come to a heartbreaking end on Saturday afternoon as is lost to Mercer, 4-3, thus ending their hopes for an Atlantic Sun Championship berth.
The loss ends the Owls season with a 9-12 (3-7 A-Sun) record, while the win improves the Bears to 9-11 (5-5 A-Sun) and it makes them the No. 5 seed in the A-Sun Tournament.
The Black and Gold had a golden opportunity to take control early on in the match as the No. 1 doubles team of junior
Simon Janik and sophomore
Elliot Kahler tied the doubles point up at 1-1 after winning their match, 8-6. Unfortunately, the No. 3 doubles team of freshman
Ryan Spencer and junior
Michael Langel couldn’t hold on to a late lead as they lost the match, 9-7.
In singles play, the Owls didn’t even have a chance to make a late run at it as they lost the first three matches off court to make the match score 4-0.
Kennesaw State did go on to win the final three singles matches as sophomore
Gokalp Ozdemir, Kahler and Spencer all ended their seasons on a positive note.
The Black and Gold set program records this season for most overall and conference wins in a single season with nine and three, respectively.
