KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team looks to improve its positioning in the race for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference as it hosts a pair of teams that are in front of it in the conference standings in Campbell and USC Upstate.
The Owls (9-8, 3-3 A-Sun) are in good position as they sit only a half-game back of sixth place Lipscomb with four A-Sun matches remaining. They got themselves in this position after earning a key split in Jacksonville, Fla. last weekend. The Black and Gold pulled out a draining, 4-3, win over Jacksonville on Friday, but fell to No. 75 North Florida on Saturday, 7-0.
A 6-1 win over Wright State on Monday also closed out Kennesaw State’s non-conference schedule as it finished with a record of 6-5.
Sophomore Elliot Kahler couldn’t have stepped up his game at a better time of the season as he has a combined overall record of 6-2 in his last eight matches. This includes a 3-1 mark in doubles play with partner Simon Janik at the No. 1 spot. The doubles point remains vital to the Owls success as they are an impressive 9-2 this season when they win the doubles point.
Campbell is 11-2 (3-1 A-Sun) this season, while USC Upstate is 7-11 (3-2 A-Sun). Campbell was picked fifth and USC Upstate was tabbed to finish fourth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll.
Friday’s match against Campbell is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and it will be played at Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta.
