KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team went out of conference for its final time in the 2011 season as it finished off its non-conference schedule in dominating fashion by coasting past Wright State, 7-0, on Monday afternoon at the Laurel Park Tennis Center.
The win improves the Owls to an overall record of 15-4, including an 11-2 mark in non-conference play. The Black and Gold join Stetson as the only two teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 15 or more overall wins this season. The loss dropped Wright State to 7-5 on the year.
In doubles action, junior
Mackenzie Swindall teamed up with junior
Vera Shkundina to pick up a nice win at the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-6. Swindall and Shkundina are now 2-0 on the season playing at the No. 1 doubles position.
The No. 2 doubles team of freshman
Alexandra Apostu and
Morgan Carney kept on rolling as they made quick work of Wright State’s doubles team by a score of 8-1. Carney and Apostu have won eight of their last ten doubles matches, and they finished non-conference play with a 9-1 doubles record.
The Black and Gold took all six of their singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Carney at the No. 6 position. The Mobile, Ala. native pushed her singles winning streak up to six matches with the win.
Kennesaw State will now begin preparations for its vital two-match weekend as it will host A-Sun rivals Campbell and USC Upstate on Friday and Saturday. Both matches this weekend will be played at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta.
