KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team looks to continue its year of firsts this weekend as it hits the road to take on Jacksonville and No. 61 North Florida in two key Atlantic Sun Conference matches.
The Owls enter the weekend with a 7-7 (2-2 A-Sun) record as they sit in seventh place just a half game back of Lipscomb for the sixth and final Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament spot.
The Black and Gold are coming off a successful split last weekend as they defeated Florida Gulf Coast on Friday in a dramatic, 4-3, match thanks to a three-set win by freshman
Ryan Spencer, but lost to Stetson on Saturday, 5-2.
With its win against Florida Gulf Coast Kennesaw State has already tied two program records. It has tied the most overall wins in a season in program history with seven, and it has also tied for the most conference wins in a season in program history with two.
Jumping out to an early lead has been key in the Owls wins so far this season and that all has to do with its terrific doubles play. Kennesaw State has won two-thirds of its doubles matches this season due in large part to the play of junior
Simon Janik and sophomore
Elliot Kahler. The duo lead the team win nine doubles wins and they are undefeated in the A-Sun with a 4-0 record.
Jacksonville is 2-10 (0-3 A-Sun) this season, while No. 61 North Florida 7-6 (2-1 A-Sun) is the first ranked team the Owls have faced all season.
