KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team split its second Atlantic Sun Conference weekend of the season as it lost to Stetson, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Laurel Park Tennis Center.

The loss drops the Owls to third place in the A-Sun with a record of 13-3 (3-1 A-Sun), while the win moves Stetson to 12-1 (4-1 A-Sun), which is good enough for second place in the conference.

In doubles action, the two schools split the first two matches as Stetson won at the No. 1 double spot, while Kennesaw State’s No. 2 doubles team of junior Morgan Carney and freshman Alexandra Apostu won their match by a score of 8-5. Carney and Apostu are 9-1 in their last ten doubles matches.

Senior Agatha Palider and sophomore Therese Lagerkvist fought back from an early deficit to make the score 7-6, but couldn’t pull it out as Stetson won 8-6, and took the doubles point.

The doubles point proved to be vital in this match as the Owls seemed to lose some of there edge when they entered singles play.

Stetson won four of the six singles matches to hand the Black and Gold its first conference loss of the season.

Kennesaw State got its two points in the match at the No. 3 and No. 6 singles positions. Apostu won a thrilling first set that ended with a 12-10 tiebreak, and she then took the second set, 6-4. Carney also made things interesting at the No. 6 spot as she won her first set in a tiebreak, then lost the second, 6-0, but gutted out a 10-4 super tiebreak to win the match.

The Owls will have all next week off before traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. next weekend to take on Jacksonville and North Florida.
