KENNESAW, Ga. – Every team has one of those matches in a season where even though it lost it can use that match as a measuring stick to see how far they have come. That is exactly what happened with the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team’s 5-2 loss to Stetson on Saturday.
Before today’s match the Owls were 0-2 all-time against Stetson, and they never even won a single set against the Hatters.
Head Coach #T.J. Greggs# knows he can take a lot of positives out of this match.
"It isn't always about wins and losses, but rather how much your team has grown,” coach Greggs said. “In our third year of existence, we were able to scare the daylights out of one of the best teams in the conference and come up just short of a victory. No one on our team should hang their head because we gave it everything we had today. We will continue to grow this season and continue our quest for a birth in the conference tournament."
In doubles action, the Owls lone win came at the No. 1 position as junior
Simon Janik and sophomore
Elliot Kahler won, 8-5. Janik and Kahler are now 9-2 on the season as a doubles team.
The match of the day came at the No. 5 singles spot as sophomore
Gokalp Ozdemir pulled off a thrilling, three-set comeback win over Stetson’s Hans Adrian Riseng by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Kennesaw State will continue A-Sun play next weekend as it will travel to the River City to play two matches against Jacksonville and North Florida.
