Owls and Panthers Renew Peach State Rivalry

Black and Gold look to move to 6-3 in non-conference play

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team is coming off a week-long break as it returns to action on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup against in-state rival Georgia State.

The Owls are coming off a heartbreaking, 4-3, loss to Jacksonville State on Feb. 15, and they are looking to get back on the winning track in its final tune-up before conference play begins next weekend.

Head Coach #T.J. Greggs# knows this will be a good test for his team as they get ready for A-Sun play.

“Georgia State is an excellent team, and this is going to be a good match for us to prepare ourselves for the Atlantic Sun Conference season,” coach Greggs said. “We can compete with any team out there if we remain focused on the court.”

The Black and Gold are 0-1 all-time against the Panthers as they lost their only meeting to Georgia State last season, 7-0.

However, Kennesaw State is a different team this season, compared to last, and that fact couldn’t be more evident with the play of freshman Ryan Spencer.

So far this season the freshman has posted identical 5-2 records in singles and doubles play. He is tied for the team lead in singles wins with five, including posting a 2-0 record at the No. 4 position. In doubles, he boasts a 3-0 record with partner Elliot Kahler at the No. 2 spot.

The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
