NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Markeith Cummings had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Kennesaw State men's basketball team fell, 75-52, to Lipscomb Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
The Owls (2-5, 0-2) kept the score tight in the first seven minutes, as a Cummings lay-up off a feed from Delbert Love cut the lead by the Bisons to three, 9-6. The Bisons would respond by scoring the next seven points in a row to bump the lead up to 10. While baskets by Cummings and Spencer Dixon brought the Olws back within six, 16-10, the Bisons responded with a,14-1, run to push the advantage up to 19.
Kennesaw State kept the score tight in the second half, but seemingly couldn't get that clutch basket to really swing momentum its way. Nick Turner scored all 10 of his points in the second half, as he and Dixon hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut Lipscomb's lead to 15, 49-34. While the Bisons got their lead back as high as 25, KSU worked to cut the advantage again. Mirza Sabic connected from the corner in front of the KSU bench to get the lead down to 18, 66-48, with just 3:40 to go in the contest. After a Lipscomb bucket, Cummings and Turner each had lay-ups to get the lead down to 16, 68-52.
The Turner lay-up would prove to be the final bucket KSU would score. The Bisons scored the final seven points of the game to close out the, 75-52, victory.
The Owls shot 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the field. Lipscomb closed the contest by shooting 32-of-68 (47.1 percent) from the field, connecting on six 3-pointers.
Aaron Anderson had a team-best 13 rebounds for the Owls, who were out-gained on the boards by a 50-37 margin. Justin Glenn had a game-high 15 rebounds for the Bisons to go with 11 points for a double-double. Malcolm Smith also had 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double of his own.
The Owls will be back in action against No. 13 Missouri Dec. 15. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
