Box Score

NASHVILLE - Justine Young had a match-high 14 kills and Sara Metroka broke her own school record for assists in a season, but the Kennesaw State volleyball team fell, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-13) to Lipscomb on Friday night at Allen Arena in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

"Championship teams play with championship effort from start to finish," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington.  "Lipscomb showed tonight why they are the two-time defending champions of this conference.  We have to recover from this loss quickly if we expect to be one of the top teams in the A-Sun."

Lipscomb (17-8, 10-1) scored 12 of the first 15 points of the first set in jumping out to a lead they would never relinquish.  Lipscomb hit .444 for the opening set in winning, 25-14.

Back-to-back kills by Young and Emily Bean gave the Owls (12-14, 7-3) a 2-1 lead in the second set.  The Lady Bisons would rally back, stretching the lead up to seven, 15-8, before the Owls asked for timeout.  The Owls would get as close as four, 18-14, after three straight attack errors by the Lady Bisons.  KSU traded points until the home team scored three straight to lead, 22-15.  Young stopped the run with a kill, and would eventually allow the Owls to fight off a set point with a kill as well, but the Lady Bisons took set two, 25-17.  Metroka would earn her 980th assist of the season to break the record in the frame.

The Owls were tied with the Lady Bisons, 3-3, in the third set, but Lipscomb went on a, 6-0, run to take the lead.  The Owls would fight, but couldn't do enough as Lipscomb took the final set, 25-13.

Kennesaw State will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Belmont.  First serve is set for 3 p.m. EDT.
