JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team looks to earn a weekend split in the River City as it takes on North Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.

The Owls are coming off a tough 1-0 loss to Jacksonville on Friday night. Kennesaw State had a couple chances to get on the board, but none better than senior Shelby Cosby’s near miss in the 51st minute. Cosby had two shots from inside 10 yards but couldn’t sneak one past the JU goalkeeper as the B lack and Gold were shutout for only the second time this season.

Kennesaw State has some history on its side looking ahead to its match against the Ospreys. KSU has never lost to North Florida posting a 9-0-1 all-time record. This includes the Black and Gold’s 1-0 win over UNF last season as senior Alyssa Mahan scored the game’s lone goal.

Sunday afternoon’s matchup will also have no shortage of offense as Kennesaw State is currently second in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 23 goals scored, while North Florida is ranked third with 20.

Redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost leads the potent Owls offense as she leads all Atlantic Sun Conference players in three statistical categories. She leads in points with 20, goals with 10 and game-winning goals with three. Her 10 goals are also tied for 10th most out of all NCAA Division I players.

Senior Brittany Vining knows KSU needs to continue to be aggressive on offense especially against a team like North Florida who has struggled defensively at times this season.

“We need to take advantage of our half opportunities and keep getting our shots off,” Vining said. “If we work off of each other effectively, and time our runs, we can continue to do some good things offensively.”

Junior goalkeeper Melissa Hutto will look to slow the North Florida offense down as she currently boasts a season-low goals against average of 1.59. Hutto is also five saves away from moving into third place on the all-time Kennesaw State saves list.
