CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The excitement is starting to build for the 2010-11 edition of the Kennesaw State men’s basketball team, and that couldn’t be more evident thanks to the recently released Sporting News Magazine College Basketball preview.
Sophomore guard
Markeith Cummings was named to the preseason All- Atlantic Sun Conference team, while the publication picked the team to finish fifth in the conference.
Cummings joins Ian Clark of Belmont, Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic and Josh Slater and Mike Smith of East Tennessee State as the five players selected to the preseason All A-Sun team. The Birmingham, Ala., native is coming off a monster rookie campaign in which he finished with the third-highest freshman scoring average in the nation, at 17.4 points per game.
The All- Atlantic Sun Conference second team selection is the conference’s second leading returning scorer behind Hodzic (22.7 ppg). The Owls were at their best when Cummings filled up the stat sheet, going 8-7 last season when he scored 18 points or more in a game.
The Sporting News Magazine is a well-respected American-based sports magazine that was established in 1886 and covers seven main sports including the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, NCAA Basketball and NCAA Football.
With four of five starters returning from last year’s squad including Cummings, junior guard
Spencer Dixon, sophomore forward
LaDaris Green and senior forward
Matt Heramb, the Owls look to pick up where they left off last season, when they upset number-one seeded Lipscomb in the first round of the A-Sun Tournament before narrowly finding defeat at the hands of East Tennessee State in the semifinals.
Kennesaw State will kick-off its season with its’ annual Black and Gold scrimmage on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the KSU Convocation Center.
