KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team is coming off a tough, 1-0, loss to Jacksonville in their first ever Atlantic Sun Conference match in KSU Soccer Stadium on Friday night. The loss was the Owls first conference loss of the season, and it also ended their longest winning streak of the season which was at three matches.
The Owls (5-4-1, 2-1-0 A-Sun) were playing catch-up most of the evening, as Jacksonville’s Lisa Hensley scored in the 24th minute of the match. The Black and Gold’s best chance to tie the match came in the 76th minute as
Kristin Kranick, who was playing for the first time since going down with an injury on Aug. 22, fired a shot from inside the box that was saved by the Jacksonville goalkeeper.
Kranick knows the Owls need to do better as they head into their A-Sun matchup against North Florida on Sunday afternoon. “I think we really need to improve our mental toughness and come out with more aggression,” Kranick said.
The Black and Gold will look to ride the stellar play of goalkeeper
Staci Pugh to a win on Sunday. Pugh has allowed only three goals in the Owls last four games in which they are 3-1. Pugh has also moved up to fourth in the A-Sun in save percentage at .800.
North Florida (3-7, 2-1 A-Sun) was picked to finish ninth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll and are coming off a 5-11-3 record last season. Under fourth-year head coach Linda Hamilton, the Ospreys are led offensively by freshman forward Carolina Lencina who has eight points on three goals and two assists. North Florida is coming of a, 1-0, win over Mercer on Friday night.
Kennesaw State is 8-0-1 all-time against North Florida, and the match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live audio of the match will be available on ksuradio.com, and live stats will be available, as well.
