BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team will conclude its weekend in Birmingham, Ala. on Sunday afternoon as they will take on in-state rival Georgia Southern in their final match of the Samford Soccer Tournament at 12:30 p.m. at Bulldog Field.

Heading into Sunday’s match, Kennesaw State (2-3-1) has only lost one game to a school from the state of Georgia since 2006. The Owls only loss was to the University of Georgia in the 2009 season, and they want to come out of Sunday with that still being its only loss to an in-state rival.

The Black and Gold are coming off a hard-fought, 2-0, loss against the Samford Bulldogs on Friday night. The Owls were outshot 13-4 in the match, and fell to 7-2-3 all-time against Southern Conference opponents.

Staci Pugh made five saves in the game, while Katie Scott led the way offensively with two shots in a losing effort.

Kennesaw State now shifts its attention to Georgia Southern who is coming off a 2-0 loss to Tennessee Tech on Friday. This is also the first ever meeting between the Owls and the Eagles.

Georgia Southern (2-3) was picked to finish in 12th place in the Southern Conference Preseason Poll. The Eagles finished last season with an overall record of 1-17, under seventh-year head coach Ashley Hart. Georgia Southern has five starters returning this season; including their top scorer from last season, junior forward Sara Oland.

The game is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. eastern time.
