Errors Doom KSU in Loss to Weber State

Gulley nets double-double in loss

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Sabrita Gulley had 15 kills and 11 digs as the Kennesaw State volleyball team fell, 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-16), to Weber State in the first match of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic on the campus of Gardner-Webb.

The Owls (2-6) came close to pulling out a victory in the first set, fighting off two set points to tie the set, 24-24.  A kill gave the Wildcats set point, 25-24, but a kill by Gulley allowed the Owls to fight off the third set point try .  With the set tied, problems in service game plagued KSU, as a service error by the Owls and a service ace by Weber State gave the Wildcats a 27-25 win in the opening frame.

In set two, KSU was tight with the Wildcats for most of the action, but with the score, 15-14, a 10-4 run by Weber State put KSU away, 25-18.  In the final set, the Owls were knotted with the Wildcats after the first 30 points, but a 10-1 run by the Wildcats gave Weber State its first win of the season in nine matches (1-8).

Gulley had a match-high 15 kills, while Alyssa Lang added 12.  Bethany Wray and Emily Jones each led Weber State with 11 kills.

The Owls committed 10 service errors on the match, compared to eight for Weber State.  WSU also had five aces, while the Owls had three.  The Wildcats finished the match with nine blocks as a team, as KSU only blocked one Weber State attack, with that coming in the first set.
