KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Owls men’s basketball team will be spreading their wings into foreign territory this summer, as they will travel to Ontario, Canada, to play five games against local club teams.
This will be the first time since Owls head coach Tony Ingle took his squad to the Bahamas prior to the start of the 2005-2006 season that the Black and Gold will be going on a foreign trip.
The week abroad will especially beneficial for the program because, for the first time, incoming freshmen will be allowed to take part in the trip. Ingle is excited to have his squad compete together as a group for the first time and see how they mesh together in advance of the upcoming season.
"We are very excited as a staff to have this opportunity and we want to take full advantage of it because foreign tours are only allowed every four years by the NCAA,” Ingle said regarding the trip. "Some primary points of emphasis will be to help build team chemistry and help our new players become more familiar with our system and the demands of NCAA Division I basketball. We are facing the most demanding schedule in the history of Kennesaw State basketball and we feel that our young team could benefit from this experience."
The Owls, who return nine players from last year’s roster, will begin their trip by taking on the Niagara All-Stars, a group of some of the top players in the province, many of whom have played at the collegiate level in the United States and Canada. Two of their games will be against the elite team of Guelph Phoenix, one of the premier basketball clubs in Ontario.
Recaps and box scores will be available after every games will be available after every game, with live blogs and information on every team available on the official trip page. Fans will also be able to follow the team on the trip with a daily video blog.
