KENNESAW, Ga. - Alyssa Lang tied Sabrita Gulley's school record for kills in a three-set match with 21, but set a new Atlantic Sun Conference record for kills in a three-set conference match in the 25-point era as the Kennesaw State volleyball team swept North Florida, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-21), on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
"This was a big win for us to be able to validate the win from the night before against Jacksonville," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington, who saw her team assure itself a winning record at home for the second straight season. "Everyone in this conference is improving on a week-to-week basis, and we know we have to up our game even more. We got solid contributions from everyone on the court, but Alyssa was on fire from the get-go today."
Lang's 21 kills are the most in a three-set A-Sun match since 2005, when Kelly Paiva of Florida Atlantic had 26 against Campbell during the 30-point era. The junior from Richmond, Va., hit .447 for the match and recorded her second consecutive double-double by notching 10 digs along the way.
Holly Knight had eight kills without an error in 12 attacks for a .667 percentage. Gulley hit .462 for the match with eight kills and two errors in only 13 attacks.
KSU's dazzling freshman duo had a big match as well. Sara Metroka had 33 assists for the Owls to lead all players, while Camille Pedraza had a match-high 17 digs.
Paidge Pridgeon led UNF's offensive attack with eight kills and 11 points scored. As a team, the Ospreys (4-15, 1-3) had 25 kills, compared to 56 for KSU.
The Owls (10-9, 3-1) will be back in action Friday night in Fort Myers, Fla., when they face Florida Gulf Coast. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
