NASHVILLE - Kennesaw State's hopes at an upset bid against the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions came up short Saturday afternoon as the Owls fell, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-11) to Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena.
"We fought really hard, but our team just ran out of gas after the performance from last night," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherignton. "Lipscomb started to put some things together and in many ways, we were physically and emotionally spent from our win against Belmont. Every school in the conference has to play back-to-back matches though, and we're no different. I can assure you we'll compete even harder next weekend against Jacksonville and North Florida and our goal is to be 3-1 in conference play come next Saturday night."
Alyssa Lang led a trio of back-row defenders in double-figures in digs with 12, while Camille Pedraza and Rachael Albright each had 10. Lipscomb out-dug the Owls, 60-43, with Alex Kelly leading the way with 17 digs.
Kelly also completed a double-double, hitting .483 for the match while recording 17 kills. Reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Meghan Hinemeyer had 11 kills.
The first set featured nine ties and three lead changes. The Owls (8-9, 1-1) were last within a point at 18-17, but Lipscomb (13-5, 2-0) went on a 6-0 run to essentially put the set away. With the score tied at 5-5 in the second set, the Bisons scored 12 of the next 14 points to pull away and take the set. The Owls were hoping for some magic like they had the night before at Belmont, but Lipscomb quickly pulled away for the 25-11 win.
The Owls will be back in action this Friday when they host Jacksonville at the KSU Convocation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
