Fort Myers, Fla. - The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team is in search of a split when they take on the first-place Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to conclude its Atlantic Sun Conference Sunshine State trip on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls (6-5-1, 3-2 A-Sun) opened their road trip with a tough, 4-1, loss to Stetson on Friday night.
The Hatters jumped on the Owls early scoring three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room. Kennesaw State got on the board in the in the 61st minute as Alyssa Mahan made a nice move to get by a Stetson defender, and crossed a ball into the box. The ball found Katie Scott’s foot and she beat the Stetson keeper from seven yards out for her first goal of the season making the score 4-1, and that was how the game would end.
Mahan continues her solid play in-conference as she has now recorded a point in four of the Owls five A-Sun matches this season, but head coach Rob King knows his team will need a much better effort to come out on top against first-place Florida Gulf Coast.
Florida Gulf Coast (6-4-1, 3-0-1 A-Sun) was picked to finish second in the A-Sun Preseason Poll and are coming off a 11-5-3 record last season. Under fourth-year head coach Jim Blakenship, the Eagles return ten starters, including junior goalkeeper Stephanie Powers who currently boasts a 0.73 GAA with five shutouts. Florida Gulf Coast is coming off a 1-0 win over Mercer on Friday night.
The Owls are 1-1-1 all-time against the Eagles, and the match is scheduled to kick-off at 1 p.m..
