NASHVILLE - Asjia Stokes had 11 kills and Chelsey Denesha had 11 digs as the Kennesaw State volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) to Lipscomb Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena in an Atlantic Sun Conference match.
"Lipscomb could turn out to be the class of the A-Sun this year," said KSU head coach Karen Weatherington. "They are a very solid team and presented a lot of challenges for us on the court today."
The Owls (7-6, 2-4) lost 12 of the first 16 points of the match and never recovered in the opening set, falling 25-19. After Lipscomb led by as many as 10 points, the Owls cut the deficit to four, 23-19, thanks to a 6-1 run sparked by a pair of Denesha kills. But four would be as close as the Owls could get as the Bisons recorded a kill and an ace to end the set.
KSU fought hard in the second set, pulling into a 13-13 tie. The Owls had a chance to gain the lead, but an attack a foot outside the antenna by the Bisons dropped in on the court and wasn't called by any of the officials, giving Lipscomb a lead they would not relinquish. Leading 20-18, Lipscomb closed the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-18.
The final set didn't feature a tie or a lead change as Lipscomb scored the first three points and never looked back in taking the 25-18 win.
The Owls outblocked Lipscomb 9-7, led by Holly Knight's five total blocks. However, the Owls were called for 10 blocking errors,
KSU will have a week to regroup before hosting North Florida at the Convocation Center Friday night at 7 p.m.
