JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – East Tennessee State scored a goal early on in the first half and the Owls could not overcome it as they fell, 1-0, to ETSU on their senior night at Summers-Taylor Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the loss the Owls (8-6-0, 6-3-0 A-Sun) remained atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings while East Tennessee State (5-10-0, 4-3-0 A-Sun) is tied for seventh.
Lexi Hastings had the first two shots of the match in the 1st and 5th minutes that both resulted in saves from ETSU keeper, Megan Masch. Despite the KSU offensive attack, it was East Tennessee State’s Terri Miller who scored in the 18th minute, her fourth goal of the season, on a long ball from teammate Gena Peterson.
The Black and Gold had plenty of opportunities in the first half, out-shooting the Bucs 10-7, but came up short on all attempts.
The second half wasn’t much different, as Kennesaw State took 11 shots which were stopped by the ETSU defense. Caitlin Dingle and the KSU offense did not give up, taking shots up until the final seconds of the game, but the ETSU defense proved to be too much as Masch came up with nine saves in the match.
Kennesaw State has one more match in the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Complex. It will be senior night where the three seniors on the team will be recognized.
