KENNESAW, Ga. – With only three matches left in the regular season, the Kennesaw State women’s soccer team takes to the road this weekend to take on Atlantic
Sun Conference opponents, USC Upstate and East Tennessee State in two crucial conference matches.
The Owls (7-5-0, 5-2-0 A-
Sun) enter the weekend sitting atop the A-
Sun and look to pick up a pair of victories as they look to secure their third regular season championship and their first since the 2007 season.
The high-flying Owls have been playing well of late with their offense seemingly hitting its stride as the Black and Gold lead the conference in several categories including points, goals per game, assists and assists per game.
Redshirt senior
Caitlin Dingle leads the team with six goals and is ranked in the top five in several categories including shots per game, points, points per game and goals per game. The Rockdale, Ga. native is coming off one her best games of the season when she scored two goals and had an assist in the Owls, 7-0, win over Lipscomb.
Sophomore
Brittany Vining had an impressive weekend as well, as she earned her first-ever A-
Sun Player of the Week award for her record-setting night against Lipscomb in which she tallied seven points on two goals and three assists. The Fayetteville, Ga. native is currently second in the league in assists and assists per game.
On
Friday night, the Owls will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate (0-15-0, 0-6-0 A-
Sun), who is looking for its first win of the season. The Spartans are led by junior Daphnee Cadet who has scored team-high three goals. Two goalkeepers split time for the Spartans as freshman Sian Jenkins and senior Brittany Daughtry have shared duties with each having 47 saves.
The Black and Gold defeated the Spartans last season, 4-1, and hold a 5-0-0 all-time record against USC Upstate as the series dates back to when both schools played in the Peach Belt Conference.
Kennesaw State will take on seventh place ETSU (4-10-0, 3-3-0 A-
Sun) on
Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneers have wins over North Florida (1-0 in double overtime), Lipscomb and USC Upstate this season.
The Bucs are led by preseason all-conference selection Jordan Monty. The senior forward has a team high 10-points on three goals and four assists while junior Terri Miller also has three goals and six points.
ETSU goalkeeper, Megan Masch, claims the number one spot in the A-
Sun in saves with 104 and is also tops in the conference with 7.07 saves per game. The last time the Owls lost to the Bucs was during the 2007 regular season. Last year the Owls topped ETSU, 2-1.
Kennesaw State plays USC Upstate at 5:00 p.m. on
Friday night at County University Soccer Stadium and then takes on ETSU at 2:00 p.m. on
Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
