The Owls crossed the finish line of the 2011 season with an Atlantic Sun Conference Championship title and sent four athletes on to compete in the NCAA National Championship. The Owls have dominated the A-Sun Track & Field winning the outdoor conference three of the last four years (2008-2010-2011), and have been crowned Indoor Conference Champions in 2008 2010, and most recently in 2012.

In only his first year, Head Coach and Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Operations Andy Eggerth was named the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Men’s Coach of the Year, as chosen by other coaches from the conference. Under his leadership, 23 athletes were named to the All-Conference team for finishing in the top three of their event at conference and four individuals advanced to NCAA Postseason action in efforts to compete in the NCAA National Championship.

Eggerth looks to build off the past success with the implementation of a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility to be used by the team in spring 2012. The facility will include a standard 400-meter track with eight lanes and will be surfaced by Rekortan, an IAAF (International Amateur Athletic Federation) certified product on which many world records have been set. The surface will be 15mm thick and is one of the top track surfaces in the country.

The event-ready facility will also have a water pit for steeplechase events and a separate throwing area for shot put competitions as well as high jump and pole vault areas at opposite ends of the track. A unique feature of the facility is the location of the of the long jump area, which will be situated outside of the track. This placement offers fans a rare, closer viewing perspective during the triple jump and long jump competitions.

The men's track and field program has been one of the most successful programs here at Kennesaw State University. The Owls have set nine A-Sun Championship records since joining the conference, as well as have won five of the last six championships in the A-Sun and have qualified for the NCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship the past two seasons.

This year is much anticipated for the Kennesaw State program with the implementation of a new facility and the addition of assistant coach Ryan Wagner and Andy Eggerth as both bring a highly touted pedigree to KSU athletics.
