Peter Chang begins his fifth season as a member of the Kennesaw State volleyball coaching staff after being named to the position on Feb. 20, 2013.
Chang came to KSU after spending one year at Tennessee State University where he helped lead the Tigers to an 18-13 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference, including a trip to the semifinals of the OVC Postseason Tournament.
While at TSU, Chang’s main responsibilities included coordinating and executing practices, recruiting, travel arrangements and both the offense and defensive aspects of the game.
Prior to his time at TSU, Chang spent two seasons at Southern Illinois-Carbondale where his main focus was on the team’s outside hitters, right-side hitters and defensive specialists. Chang was also responsible for coordinating practices, recruiting, travel coordination and film breakdown.
Before arriving at Carbondale, Chang spent two years as both a volunteer and interim assistant coach at Indiana University where he helped lead the Hoosiers to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2010 with an overall record of 23-12. Chang oversaw all ball-control drills in practice where he guided IU libero Caitlin Cox to a school record 488-dig season.
A South Korea native, Chang graduated from Ball State in 2006 where he coached the women’s club team from 2005-08, posting an overall record of 142-9. The team also finished in the top five nationally all five seasons under Chang and reached the No. 1 spot for seven consecutive weeks. In 2007, Chang was named the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association Coach of the Year in Division I.
From 2001-08, Chang worked as an assistant coach for Munice Central High School in Munice, Ind., bringing home an Indiana State Championship Title in 2004. The team earned an overall record of 212-22 in Chang’s six seasons and made four trips to the State Championship Match.
At the club volleyball level, Chang was the head coach for the Munciana Volleyball Club from 1999-2008 where he helped the team bring in five top five finishes on the national scene while training over 100 NCAA Division I volleyball players.
