Marissa Helms

Marissa Helms was hired in October 2024 as the Learning Specialist at Kennesaw State. In her role, she works to assist students develop the skills necessary to complete college with excellence based on their unique experiences and strengths.

While this is her first position in college athletics, prior to KSU, she worked as a therapist in Alpharetta, Ga. and across central Virginia. Marissa's therapeutic experience focused on addressing clients in a holistic manner to assist them in processing how to alleviate various life stressors, experiences, and expectations. She was responsible for managing a caseload of children and adults in out-patient and school-based settings and treatment planning according to their presenting problems.

During her college internship, she trained under a Licensed Psychologist in administering and interpreting psychological assessments, which evaluated various neurodevelopmental, mood, and behavioral disorders. 

These experiences push her to view student-athletes through a comprehensive lens, capitalizing on their strengths and adapting to their weaknesses so that their physical, academic, and personal wellness can thrive amid the responsibilities that come with being a student-athlete in higher education.

She is a member of the National Association of Academic & Student-Athlete Development Professionals and the subcommittee Learning Concerns & Enhancements. 

Helms graduated from Liberty University in May of 2021 with her degree in Psychology from before continuing her education and earning her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in May of 2024.
