Latrice Lewis

Kennesaw State University announced the addition of Latrice Lewis to its Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) team as the staff therapist for athletics. Joining the university in 2024, Lewis brings extensive expertise in mental health and sports psychology to support the wellbeing of KSU student-athletes across all Division 1 programs.

"KSU believes in a holistic approach to supporting our student-athletes, and we see strong value in the mental health wellbeing of our athletes," said Director of Athletics Milton Overton. "Latrice will serve as a key component in our effort to provide best-in-class mental health support for our student-athletes in their journey to become well-rounded, contributing members of our great community. The wellbeing of our student-athletes will always be our top priority at Kennesaw State University."

With a focus on fostering resilience, optimizing performance, and navigating the unique challenges of collegiate athletics, Lewis will work closely with student-athletes on issues such as general and performance anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal and relational concerns, and transitions out of sport. Her therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational-emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), person-centered therapy (PCT), and solution-focused therapy (SFT).

"My goal in providing mental performance and mental health services is to support the emotional well-being of our athletes and help them perform to their full potential while at KSU," said Lewis. "KSU has taken a positive step in prioritizing its athlete's mental health and the development of their mental game. As a native of Kennesaw, I am thrilled to have been chosen as the individual to pilot this new addition to CPS and athletics in my hometown. Go Owls!"

Lewis holds an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University and an M.S. in Kinesiology with a specialization in Sports Psychology and Motor Behavior from the University of Tennessee. Her academic credentials also include a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Georgia State University and an A.S. in Liberal Arts from North Country Community College.
