2010 Season
Competed in eight meets for the Owls during her senior season… Placed first at the Powerade UTV Invitational… Finished second at the Crimson Classic where she ran the 5k in 17:11… Also placed second at the Samford Invitational in the 5k with a time of 18:02… Finished second at the Front Runner Invitational… Competed at the ASUN Championships and finished in first place where she ran the 5k in 17:22.78… Placed eighth in the 6k at the NCAA South Regional with a time of 20:16.13… Finished her season at the NCAA Championships where she competed in the 6k and finished 108
th... Was named to the All-ASUN Conference First Team.
2009 Season
Howe got off to a flying start during her junior campaign, winning her first six races en-route to being named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Runner of the Week five out of the seven times the award was given, including four times in a row from 9/9 to 9/30…Kicked off the season with a pair of victories in two-mile races, the JSU Struts Season Opener (11:07) and the UTC Invitational (11:15)…Her next four triumphs came in 5k races; the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (17:13), where she beat Auburn’s Holly Knight down the stretch; the Mercer Invitational (17:56); the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic (18:06) and the Hatter Invitational (17:42)…Was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference First Team by way of a runner-up finish in the A-Sun Championship…Named to the NCAA All-South Region team after finishing 18th in the NCAA South Region Championship with a time of 20:58 in the 6k race…Her achievements caught the attention of the national media, as she appeared in the October 12 issue of Sports Illustrated in their “Faces in the Crowd” section.
2008 Season
Mackenzie followed up a stellar freshman campaign by solidifying herself as one of the top runners in the Atlantic Sun Conference, placing in the top-5 in six out of seven races during the season and leading the way as the Owls’ top finisher in all of them…Season opener was a sign of things to come, as she won the Jacksonville Invitational 3k with a time of 11:44, leading the Owls to victory in that meet…Followed that meet up with another top-rate performance at the Powerade Invitational, where she finished in 4th place with a time of 11:31…Her first of three runner-ups came at the RunFit Invitational, hosted by Mercer, where her 17:55 performance in the team’s first 5k meet of the season propelled them to a second-place overall finish…Continued her strong times in 5k races at the Walt Disney World Invitational in Orlando, finishing the race in 5th place with a time of 17:50…Closed out her season with back-to-back runner-up finishes, first in the Front Runner Invitational, where her 11:11 time was her fastest performance in a 3k for the season, and finally at the Atlantic Sun Championship, where her 17:58 time helped KSU to a 3rd place finish.
2007 Season
Had an outstanding freshman season, earning All-Conference and All-Freshman honors …She completed the 5k course at Atlantic Sun Women’s Cross Country Championship in 19:08, finishing in 8th place at meet, hosted by Lipscomb ... Came in second place in her collegiate debut at the JSU Season Opener in Jacksonville, Alabama, posting a time of 11 minutes flat in the 3k ... Also came in second place in the 5k at the Mercer Atlanta Invitational, with a time of 20:24... Placed fourth at the Disney World Cross Country Classic with a time of 18:06 to lead the Owls ... Ran the 5k in 19:21 for seventh place at the GSU Invitational ... Led the Owls at the Auburn Tiger Invitational with a time 17:45, to finish in 27th place.
Prep Career
Arrived at Kennesaw State after finishing her prep career at Oconee High School in Watkinsville, where she competed in both cross country and track ... One of the top runners in Georgia High School Region 8 for cross country and track in 2006 ... Finished second in the Georgia High School Class 3A State Championship for the 5k as a senior ... Graduated as the record holder in the one mile and two mile races at Oconee High School, breaking both on the same day of competition.
Personal
Was born Sara Mackenzie Howe in Alpharetta, Ga. ... She is the daughter of Patti Giulbeau and Jeff Howe ... Has one older brother; Adam, 24 ... Is majoring in Health and Exercise Science…Plans on pursuing a career as a nutritionist after graduation…Enjoys tennis, the outdoors, and basketball when she is not competing.
