Cat Hosfield Fritts

Cat Hosfield Fritts

Cat Hosfield Fritts is entering her fourth year as an assistant coach for the Kennesaw State softball team after being named to the position on Aug. 2, 2013.

She is primarily involved with infield, pitching and recruiting as well as operational needs.

As the Owls' pitching coach, Hosfield Fritts oversaw the development of a pitching staff that has made marked improvement, highlighted by the 2016 season in which Kennesaw State recorded a 2.89 ERA, its best mark in four seasons.

Individually, Hosfield Fritts' mentoring resulted in junior Logan Viers and senior Morgan Sikes producing career years and ranking second and third, respectively, in ERA. Viers started a career-high 40 games and registered a 14-11 record and 1.65 ERA, while Sikes went 13-6 with a 1.94 ERA and six saves.

Viers earned Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) second team all-conference honors and was tabbed to the ASUN Conference's all-tournament team, while Sikes' six saves tied for second on KSU's single-season list and led the ASUN Conference.

During the 2015 campaign, Hosfield Fritts helped Paige Mathews earn ASUN Conference all-tournament recognition.

Prior to Kennesaw State, Hosfield Fritts served as a graduate assistant coach at Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, Ga. While at AASU, she managed various tasks, including organizing workouts, coordinating bullpens, and helping to plan practices. She also assisted in leading the Pirates to the program’s first-ever NCAA Division II World Series appearance, where the team secured a third-place finish.

Hosfield Fritts was part of the AASU coaching staff that was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) as the Division II Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2013.

Hosfield Fritts, along with head coach Ted Evans, student assistant coach April Jowers and volunteer assistant coach Jessica Strong helped direct the Armstrong softball squad to its first NCAA Southeast Region championship and a national semifinalist finish at the DII Softball Championships.

The Pirates finished 2013 with a 44-10-1 overall record, an 18-4 mark in the Peach Belt Conference and went 8-3 during NCAA Championships play, losing to eventual national champion Central Oklahoma in Salem, Va.

Hosfield Fritts also mentored senior pitcher Megan Barnwell, who was named an honorable mention DII All-American pitcher by Daktronics and CoSIDA in 2013. She posted a 27-6 record and 2.05 ERA, tying the school career record for wins with 86.

A four-year standout at the University of Tennessee, Hosfield Fritts went 49-22 with a 2.91 ERA in her career for the Vols, earning Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman Player of the Week honors in 2009, while also earning SEC Honor Roll accolades following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons at UT. She was also named the National High School Player of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) while at Riverdale High School in 2008.

A native of Murfressboro, Tenn., Hosfield Fritts graduated from Tennessee with her bachelor’s degree in communication in 2012 and earned a master's degree in adult education and community leadership from Armstrong Atlantic State in May in 2014.

Hosfield Fritts and her husband, Chris Fritts, currently reside in Marietta.
