T.J. Greggs

T.J. Greggs enters his eighth season with the Kennesaw State University tennis program and the fourth as the men's tennis head coach. He started with the program as a volunteer assistant coach before taking over the program as the Director of Tennis Operations in May of 2006, then transitioning into coaching the new men’s program, which began competing in 2008-2009.

The women's program improved every season since the first in which he was involved with the program. The women's team went from a 4-18 record in the first full season of Division I competition, to a record of 11-9 in 2008-09, the last season in which Greggs worked with the women’s program.

The inaugural men's program in 2008-09 finished with a respectable 7-12 record, including picking up two wins in the Atlantic Sun Conference while fielding a team composed entirely of freshmen.  In 2010, the program continued to improve, finishing 6-12 overall and ended the Atlantic Sun season with a record of 2-7. The 2011 season was a record breaking one for the Owls. Under coach Greggs guidance, the Black and Gold compiled a then-program best in overall wins going 9-12, and tallied a program best in A-Sun wins finishing in a tie for eighth at 3-7. A year later, Greggs led the men's tennis team to the most wins in a single season with a 10-13 mark, but hit rough waters in the tough and talented A-Sun Conference, finishing with a mark of 1-8.

The Owls’ true success under Greggs has been in the classroom, where he has now coached 29 ITA Academic All-American players.  Both of the Owls teams were named as ITA All-Academic Teams in 2008-09, and Greggs' men's programs have been ITA Academic All-American all four seasons of existence.  Every member of the squad was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team as well during both the 2009-10 season and 2010-11.

Greggs has been involved in college tennis for several years, both as a player and as a coach. He served as assistant coach at Allegheny College (Pa.) in 1997-98 and then the University of Buffalo from 1999 through 2001. Greggs had a successful career as a collegiate player, playing at Westminster (Pa.) from 1992-95 where he was a two-time All-Keystone/Empire Collegiate Conference performer. Playing No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, Greggs twice advanced to the finals of the conference tournament and in 1994 he represented Westminster at the NAIA National Tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

In addition to his role as the men’s tennis coach, Greggs also serves on several campus committees, including the Presidential Commission on GLBTIQ Issues and the Department of Athletics Student-Athlete Welfare committee.

Greggs has a B.S. in Mathematics from Westminster (1995) and received his M.A. in College Student Personnel from Slippery Rock University in 1999. He received a Graduate Certification in Sports Leadership from Central Florida in 2004.

Greggs, a native of Stoneboro, Pa., is single and makes his home in Smyrna, Ga.
