Luke Samford begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Owls, and will be working with the cross-country team and distance runners. Samford comes to the Black and Gold from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where he served as an assistant coach on the Lake City high school team.
At Lake City, Samford coached both the men and women’s mid-distance and distance runners. He helped guide a Foot Locker Cross Country National Finalist to the meet in 2009, and helped prepare him for the collegiate level where he currently competes for Brigham Young University. Samford also has experience in directing and coaching summer camps.
Samford was a collegiate athlete at Southwestern Oregon Community College before transferring and competing in track and field at the University of Idaho. An accomplished prep runner, Samford competed in the 4x800 meter relay at the 2005 National Junior Olympics as well as the 2000-meter steeplechase.
Samford graduated from the University of Idaho in 2011 with a degree in Physical Education and Sports Psychology. Samford currently resides in Smyrna, Ga.
