Appeared in 21 of the Owls[apos] 56 games and started three...His longest outing of the season came against conference opponent Belmont on April 15 where he picked up his first win throwing 5.2 innings of relief, striking out a season high four batters and allowing no earned runs...Had a span of seven appearances between February 11 and March 14 where he gave up only two earned runs in 12.0 innings...Earned his first save against Gardner-Webb on March 11...Second save came against conference opponent Lipscomb on April 1 where he threw 3.1 innings with three strikeouts without giving up a hit...Finished the season 1-2 with a 4.47 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched. 2005 Season
Matt is returning for his sophomore season with the Owls...In his freshman season he was 4-6 in 15 appearances while throwing 72.0 innings...Had the fourth lowest batting average against with opponents hitting .277 against him...Was fifth on the team with 5.25 ERA and was second on the team with 50 strikeouts...Walked only 24 batters, good for a 2.08 strikeout to walk ratio...Worked over five innings in nine of his 15 starts...Won his debut with the Owls, pitching five innings of three-hit ball during a 9-1 win over Limestone on February 5...Did not allow an earned run in his first two appearances (8.2 innings)...Threw the Owls[apos] only complete game shut-out on March 26, giving up only three hits and recording four strikeouts without a walk in seven innings of work in a 6-0 win over Augusta State...Went seven strong innings against Columbus State on March 4, giving up only two runs on five hits while striking out a season-high eight batters...lefties hit .299 (20-for-67) while right-handed hitters hit .270 (57-for-211)...Had at least one strikeout in 14 of his 15 appearances...Only seven of his 77 hits allowed went for extra bases.
