1992-93 -The Beginning

Susan Whitlock initiates the women’s team and has a 16-7 first year.

1994 Season - The Winningest Season

The team’s 16-4 mark still stands as the best winning percentage in KSU tennis history.

1995 Season - Time to join the Peach Belt Conference 

KSC joins the Peach Belt Conference and competes in the League tournament, finishing fourth.

1996-97 Season - The First NCAA Tournament Appearance 

New coach Andrea Schmitz leads the team to a 4-5 PBC record, and 8-10 overall, finishing fourth in the league tournament.  The strength of the schedule lands KSU a bid to the NCAA tournament, where they drop their first round match to Lynn (Fla.) 9-0.

1997-98 Season - A Second Straight NCAA Bid

 The Owls earn an NCAA bid for the second consecutive season yet fall in the first round. 

 

1998-99 Season - First All-Conference Honor and Third Consecutive NCAA Bid

Greta Humbert becomes the program's first ever All-Conference player.  Another NCAA bid sees the Owls drop a 9-0 decision to West Florida.

 

1999-00 Season - Back in the NCAA Tourney 

The team has a 7-4 Peach Belt record finishing fourth.  Their 14-7 overall mark, which includes a fifth-place tournament finish in the loop, lands them an NCAA invitation. 

 

2000-01 Season - NCAA South Regional Time

All-Conference Loraine Rosmueller led the Owls to a third place finish in both the Peach Belt Conference regular season (8-2) and tournament, as the team ended 12-5 in the NCAA South Regional.

 

2001-02 - Sixth Consecutive NCAA Tourney Bid

KSU finished fifth in both the Peach Belt regular season (6-4) and tournament.  The team received their sixth consecutive bid to the post-season, before losing to rival North Florida 5-0 in the NCAA tournament.

2002-03 Season - NCAA South Regional Final Berth 

The Owls go 6-3 in the Peach Belt  and 13-5 overall.  The team advances to the NCAA Region final with a 5-3 win over USC Spartanburg but fall 5-0 to Georgia College in the finals.

2003-04 Season - Eighth Consecutive NCAA Tourney Appearance

The Owls received their eighth consecutive bid to the postseason.  The team went 5-5 in the Peach Belt Conference and 9-9 in all matches.

2010-11 Season - Most Wins in a Season in Program History 

KSU finishes fourth in the ASUN with an 18-6 record. The 18 wins are the most in a season in program history. KSU is led by Vera Shkundina who became a three-time ASUN All-Conference Performer.

July 16, 2018 - Matt Emery Named Director of Tennis 

Director of Athletics Milton Overton names Matt Emery, former University of Kentucky assistant coach, as Director of Tennis. Emery spent six years in Lexington as the Wildcat's men's tennis assistant coach before coming to the Black and Gold. More info

March 2, 2022 - Ranked for the First Time 

The Owls are ranked 69th in the ITA Team Rankings. The ranking marked the first time the Owls have been inside the top 75 published poll in school history and sets a new personal-best under Director of Tennis Matt Emery. Upon his arrival in 2018, the program ranked 298 out of 304 Division 1 programs.

March 8, 2022 - Longest Win Streak in Program History 

The Owls collect a 6-1 win at West Carolina. The win moves KSU to 9-0 on the season and is the best start in program history.

October 22, 2022 - Announcement of a New Journey

After over 17 years at the Division I level, Kennesaw State athletics announced a move to Conference USA and NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, effective July 1, 2024.

April 14, 2024 - The Final ASUN Victory 

Kennesaw State downs Eastern Kentucky by a score of 5-2 to secure its final ASUN Conference win on the last day of the regular season.

2023-24 Season - Undefeated at Home in Final ASUN Season

The 2024 season saw the Owls finish 11-8 overall. KSU posted a 7-3 record and finished tied second in the ASUN regular season standings. KSU knocked off Stetson and UNF for the first time at the D1 level. That regular season finish was the best in program history. The Owls finish with a perfect 7-0 record at home for the first time in program history. 

2024 KSU Women's Tennis Team

2024-25 Season - First Year in CUSA

The 2025 season saw the Owls finish 7-8 overall. The Owls finish with a perfect 6-1 record at home. Ema Baraniakova earned a First Team All-Conference selection for singles. Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid were named to the First Team All-Conference doubles squad. Che Nel was named to the All-Freshman team.
