Coach of the Year
Each year the Kennesaw State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics honors the top head coach of the 16 sponsored. The James "Spec" Landrum Award is given to the head coach who best demonstrates excellence on and off the field while instilling the principals and values of intercollegiate athletics and competition. The award, created in 1992, is named after Kennesaw State's first athletic director. Landrum was appointed athletic director by then-president Dr. Betty Siegel in 1981 and initiated the first intercollegiate athletic programs at Kennesaw State.
Over the past 19 years, 11 different coaches representing nine sports have earned the James "Spec" Landrum Coach of the Year award. This past year, two first-time winners were honored as volleyball's Karen Weatherington received the women's award while the men's award was claimed by golf head coach Jay Moseley.
Weatherington was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year after leading Kennesaw State a second-place finish, the highest ever in the five-year history of the program. Moseley also won the A-Sun Coach of the Year award after leading the Owls to its first conference championship as well as a berth in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
