Kennesaw State has an illustrious history of successful student-athletics beginning from it's early years in the NAIA through the decade of Division II competition. Since the inception of intercollegiate competition 1984, Kennesaw State has produced 120 All-Americans in 10 sports and has one of the strongest contingent of successful student-athletes in the country.
The Owls are proud to have produced 51 First Team All-Americans while members of both the NAIA and NCAA.
Marjo Venalainen is perhaps the most noted All-American to compete for Kennesaw State. The legendary cross-country star earned four NCAA First Team All-American honors from 1999-2002. Venalainen and her husband, Jari, are the first husband and wife team to earn All-American honors. Jari was a First Team All-American in 1999.
Jason Jones earned a distinct honor as he became the first male athlete at Kennesaw State to earn two NCAA First Team All-American honors. Jones, who later went on to play for the Texas Rangers, was a First Team NCAA All-American in both 1998 and 1999.
Another baseball great, Ryan Coe, earned a separate distinction as he is the only player in the country to have received All-American honors at three levels of collegiate play. Coe, a catcher for KSU, was an All-American at Cleveland State (Tenn.) Junior College, before receiving All-American honors with KSU in 1994 while the Owls were members of the NAIA and in 1995, Kennesaw State's first year of NCAA Division II competition.
The storied softball program has produced a pair of two-time First Team All-Americans and one three-time honoree in it's short-lived history. Audra Thomas was named NCAA First Team All-American for three seasons from 1999 through 2001. in past star Laura Munson and present-day sensation Keri McKee. Munson earned NAIA First Team All-American honors in 1992 and 1993, while McKee earned NCAA First Team All-American honors in 2003 and 2004.
